We'd like to urge all of Tamworth's school to follow Tamworth Enterprise College's wonderful example and to make it their New Year's resolution for 2014 to work towards Dyslexia Friendly at either 'Full' or 'Enhanced' status. Well done TEC!
Dig-iT sends many congratulations to Tamworth Enterprise College for being the first high school in the whole of Staffordshire to achieve Dyslexia Friendly 'Enhanced Status' in recognition of the additional breadth of consideration given to co-occurring difficulties associated with dyslexia, such as dyspraxia, dyscalculia, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and memory difficulties. The achievement is no mean feat and is truly an inspiration! See TEC's news item here. Yesterday's free workshop day at the Snowdome, run by Staffordshire Skillshare, was voted a huge success by all concerned.
The event was suggested by Dig-iT and Tamworth Dyspraxia group earlier this year and Staffordshire Skillshare agreed to organise and host the event. Thanks to all involved with the organising and to those parents who turned up. Special thanks must go to Dr Steve Macdonald of the University of Sunderland who delivered an inspiring keynote speech at the start of the day, having travelled down from Newcastle the same morning. Staffordshire Skillshare is to run a free dyslexia / dyspraxia workshop in Tamworth on: Saturday, 22nd September 2012 at Snowdome, Tamworth from 10am to 4pm (download the flyer here). It's open to anyone who is a parent / carer of a child with dyslexia and / or dyspraxia! Please do book a place! There will be a choice of workshops on the following:
There will also be a very inspiring speaker attending who is severely dyslexic but whose bumpy (but ultimately successful) journey through the education system and beyond will give everyone a lot of hope and inspiration. I would throughly recommend attending this event! To book a place, or for more info, please telephone Parent Partnership Service on: 01785 356 930 Alternatively you can download a form via: www.staffordshire.gov.uk/spps and email it to: [email protected]. |
