Luke, who is himself dyslexic, was present at the event to unveil the commemorative plaque along with Tamworth’s Mayor Tina Clements and Managing Director of Drayton Manor theme park, Colin Bryan. Luke stayed all day at the event, demonstrating boxing moves, signing autographs for local school children, boxing club members and their families and having his photograph taken, along with his fabulous Olympic Gold Medal.
Having been introduced to Luke with her daughter Lizzie, Julie commented “Luke was lovely. He talked a little about his own dyslexia, saying he struggles a bit with spelling and reading and often has to ask people how to spell their names when he writes an autograph for them. Luke said he is quite open about his dyslexia and he doesn’t let it stop him from doing things, which is just the approach that we at Dig-iT aim to encourage”. Julie explained further “We really enjoyed meeting Luke. He was a real inspiration especially to those, like him, who have struggled with dyslexia”.
