Dyslexia Association of Staffordshire (DAS)

DAS is a non-profit organisation which offers information, advice, testing, training and tuition on issues related to dyslexia.

They are  based in Longton in Stoke-on-Trent but work across the whole county.

Voice For Change

​Voice For Change is a group of parents/carers that are recognised by the Staffordshire Local Authority (L.A).

They are representative of local groups of parents and carers of children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and disabilities.

They endeavour to work alongside the L.A., education, health and other service providers to ensure the services they plan, commission, deliver and monitor meet the needs of children and families.

Dig-iT has a representative on VFC.

Note that they are not a support group and do not respond to individual queries.

Middleton Hall

Middleton Hall & Gardens is a little-known historic site located on the North Warwickshire border, between Tamworth and Sutton Coldfield. The estate covers 42 acres which encompasses a historic manor house, an eighteenth-century Walled Garden and the oldest man-made lake in North Warwickshire.

Middleton Hall has worked with Dig-iT to make their museum more accessible to people.

Film-maker Thom Davies made a documentary called "I Am Dyslexic" and Dig-iT was very proud to have not only been a sponsor of this project, but also to have been involved in putting Thom in touch with some of the people that feature in it.

In It Together Tamworth

In It Together is a not-for-profit support group based in Tamworth.

They support parents and carers of children with additional needs and meet regularly, having three drop-in's per month in Leyfields, Glascote and Mile Oak. Details of their drop-ins can be found on their website and Facebook page.

Disability Co-operative Network

DCN was set up by a group of committed museum professionals who are working with academics, groups, specialists, curators and managers to share knowledge to break down barriers for disability in the cultural sector.

Their website is a forum for the museum sector and to connect with charities, groups and individuals outside the sector. The website will include case studies, specialist knowledge and information for both the public facing aspects of museum work and supporting disabled voluntary and paid staff.

The Dyslexia Adult Network (DAN) was founded to increase awareness of the impact of dyslexia and related conditions on adults.

They are made up of representatives of the major dyslexia charities and of specialists, including adults with dyslexia.

Dyslexia Information Day was founded by Elizabeth Wilkinson, "The Dyslexic Dyslexia Consultant" and provides events to raise the awareness of dyslexia and other SpLD’s Information, support and advice to those who are dyslexic to help them make the most of their disability and parents & teachers or anyone who wants to know more!

There are lots of reasons why Tamworth Library are our friends, including:-
  • provide an IT Buddies service for people who struggle with using a computer or other device
  • provide a Reading Buddies scheme for people who find literacy difficult
  • spent £500 on dyslexia friendly books.

Community Together CIC

Community Together CIC provide a wealth of community services from promoting healthy lifestyles, offering drop-in services such as job club & computer club, room hire, community activities and community cafes. Dig-iT would be lost without them.

Tamworth Amateur Boxing Club (Corner Post Gym)

It’s more than Boxing. Over the last 18 years Tamworth Amateur Boxing Club has worked closely with the community to provide an outlet for young men and women where they can participate in a social and energetic sport. They work closely with schools in and around Tamworth; helping with social skills, confidence, fitness and discipline.
